Directed by Jameela Elfaki, through Laird and Good Company this short for the non-profit Well Aware follows Sera, a 12-year-old girl in Kenya whose daily life – and opportunities – have radically changed thanks to access to reliable, clean water.
Titled SERA: More Than Water, it’s a heartwarming portrait of the pride Sera’s mother feels in her daughter’s education and the deep joy going to school affords a child once burdened by the time-consuming and physically demanding journey to fetch water.
The film ends with the insight that woman and girls in Well Aware’s partner communities have reclaimed 70 million days through not have to walk miles for water.
The director commented: Filming was a beautiful experience and a real privilege. Sitting in Rose’s home, with the help of two translators, she shared deeply moving words addressed to her daughter, Sera. It was an emotional moment for everyone in the room, we were all holding back tears.
The campaign is part of Laird and Good Company's Good Works initiative.
