Another sports themed ad, another punchily edited montage depicting endeavour and perseverance: nerves of steel; perfect abs gleaming under a slick of nobel sweat; players and athletes roaring with fervour and passion for their glorious pursuits.
It can all get a bit samey. But then a spot comes along that turns the clichés into pure art.
Directed by Stuart McIntyre through Wanda Productions, The Beauty of Sport delights the eye with a beautifully photographed dance of slow-mo, and fast-mo scenes, charms the ear with elegant music and sound design, and nourishes the mind with a lyrical script about the details in sporting quests.
DP Paul Guilhaume echoes this focus on details with lush details in the photography, such as a kaleidoscope pattern of fragmented images reforming into an expert kick that shatters a mirror.
